How to Set up a Business TikTok Account in 3 Simple Steps

If you are a business, you should run to get a TikTok business account. NOW.

TikTok is one of the biggest social media in the world with over a billion monthly active users. It hosts an insane number of communities with different interests, so it’s guaranteed that you’ll find your audience.

And if you want the best tools to develop your business’ image, a TikTok business account is exactly what you need.

1- Create your TikTok account

If you already have a TikTok account, you can skip to step 2!

If you don’t have one yet, head to https://www.tiktok.com/signup or download the TikTok app on your phone.

You can sign up by using your phone number, email, Facebook account, Google account, or Twitter account. Depending on the type of sign up you choose, you might have to confirm by receiving a code.

Once you’ve done that and created a password, TikTok will ask you for your birth date, then to create a username.

Your username is super important for your TikTok image. It should reflect your brand/business name. Users must be able to identify you easily and remember you when they come across your profile.

Insider tip: If you have other social media accounts, try to use the same username for all of them. If that’s not possible, try to make them as similar as possible.

Example: We are @ugc_shop on TikTok and @ugcshop on Instagram.

2- Switch from a personal account to a business account

Once you have a personal account, you can switch it to a business account in a few simple steps.

1- On the app, tap “Profile” in the bottom right corner.

2- Tap the 3-line icon in the top right, then choose “Settings and privacy”.

3- Select “Manage Account” at the top of the settings.

4- Under “Account control”, tap “Switch to Business Account”.

5- Click “Next”.

6- Choose a category that describes your account, then tap “Next”.

You now have a TikTok business account!

Good to know: TikTok allows you to switch to Business Account and back to Personal Account as many times as you want, and at no cost! You only have to repeat the same process detailed up here.

3- Optimise your TikTok business account

Now that you have a business account, there are a few features you need to focus on to strengthen your business’ image on the app.

Business Name

Your account username and name are two different things. When you edit your profile, remember filling in the “Name” section with your business name.

Profile picture

Your profile picture will be everywhere you are on TikTok: comments, videos, direct messages, and your profile page.

If you have a logo, this is the perfect place to display it! Like with the username, use the same logo across all platforms and social media, so users can recognize you easily.

Bio

TikTok gives you 80 characters to introduce your business. That might seem tight, but we have a few tips to help you make the best of that space:

  • Describe your business with only necessary words. Get rid of adjectives if they are not essential.
  • Use your business’ voice. If you aim for a fun vibe, sprinkle in some emojis. If you want more of a professional voice, maybe don’t use too many exclamation points.
  • Tell users what you want them to do with a call to action (CTA). This could be “Join now”, “Book a free call”, or “Use coupon XX for 15% off”.

Bio link

If you have at least 1,000 followers on your account, this feature is too good to ignore. When you edit your profile, you can add a link to your website in your bio. Perfect for driving traffic!

And if you want to add several different links (your Instagram and Twitter, for example), you can use tools like Linktr.ee.

If you don’t have 1,000 followers yet, you can add a link as part of your bio text. It won’t work as a hyperlink, but it will tell users where to find you! Just make sure the link is as short as possible so your whole bio can stay within 80 characters. If necessary, you can use link shorteners such as Bit.ly.

Why is a TikTok business account better than a personal account for a brand?

There are many advantages to having a business account over a personal one on TikTok if you want to give exposure to your business, but here are two of the main ones.

  • With a business account, you have access to statistics that can help you understand your audience and build your following: Analytics, Workspace, and Activity & support.
  • You only have access to the Commercial Sounds library. A good way to make sure you don’t get in trouble for using an unlicensed sound to promote a product.

If you want to make TikTok a part of your marketing strategy (and we HIGHLY recommend that you do), a business account is what you need.
